Following on from yesterdays post, I am again having a little trouble, this time with regards to the 'teaching' of some other religions, that Paradise in The Bible means Heaven...
According to The Catholic Encyclopaedia, Paradise is Heaven and is a place for the blessed, where the good go to after death (here)... It states "The blessed are confirmed in good; they can no longer commit even the slightest venial sin; every wish of their heart is inspired by the purest love of God".
... This immediately goes against Luke 23: 39-43 (here) The Catholic Bible/New Advent Holy Bible version (here) and King James version (here) in which the criminal on a torture stake next to Jesus was promised by Jesus that he would later be in Paradise.
... This makes me wonder what their teaching is on Psalms 37:9-11 (here) - Also in the King James Version (here) and The New Advent Holy Bible version (here).
Another point is that not anywhere in any Bible is there any mention of anyone coming back to life when resurrected and then saying "why did you bring me back to this awful place? I was comfy and happy there!" neither do they discuss being in 'another place' at any time. Also, nowhere does anyone mention anywhere in any Bible that they were happy to be resurrected and rescued from burning or torment! One of the most significant accounts in my mind is when Jesus resurrected his close good friend Lazarus after he 'fell asleep in death'** John 11:11 (here) - King James version (here) - The New Advent Holy Bible version (here), evidently in a period when times were extremely tough and rather unpleasant; would Jesus' really be so cruel as to take Lazarus away from such a place back to the life they evidently had at that time? In fact, if one were in Heaven, would there be any point in bringing one back to life even if they had a fairly pleasant one on earth!? =/
The resurrection of Lazarus is recorded at John 11:41-44 (here) and in the King James version (here) and in The New Advent Holy Bible version (here)... This same account (along with other recorded resurrections) not only goes to question the teachings that the good/bad go to Heaven/Hell but also it brings back to light my previous question as to the teaching of the trinity, that Jesus is God - How and why would Jesus look up and pray to himself?
** I was a little surprised that both the King James and The New Advent Holy Bible still liken death to sleep... I kind of expected this bit to have been adapted a little in order to back up various other teachings such as immortal soul, life in Heaven/Hell after death etc.
... I was also surprised to see that both Bibles still show Ecclesiastes 9:5 (here) in the correct context, confirming that The Bible clearly teaches that the dead are conscious of nothing! King James version (here) and The New Advent Holy Bible version (here).

Other relevant scriptures: -
John 3: 16... - For research on the trinity.
(New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures) - Used by Jehovah's Witnesses.
(King James Bible)- Used by Church of England (and sometimes Jehovah's Witnesses for comparison).
(The New Advent Holy Bible) - Used by Catholics.
... Again, the King James Bible and The New Advent Holy Bible both appear to agree with the reality (the original scriptures/scrolls), which clearly goes against the trinity (their own teaching)! =/
Joel 2:32... - For research on using God's actual name, and not just using a title such as Lord or God.
(New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures).
(King James Bible) - I'm not sure why the name of the Lord has been taken out, especially in view of what the scripture itself is saying!
(The New Advent Holy Bible) - This only shows up to verse 27 - Verses 28-32 appear to have been deleted altogether!! =/

Since I last updated I have been 'householder' in the Theocratic Ministry School again but this time it was on the platform in the main part of the Kingdom Hall, in front of about 140 people (I cannot believe how comfy and relaxed I was with this)! Oooh and I am now able to go out on the Ministry and have been taking part in the Memorial Campaign (going from house to house handing out and posting invites). I also got to go back on a return visit with Miriam to chat with a lovely lady who is interested in studying the Bible and learning about what it really teaches... Soooo exciting! *bounce*
ION... I have been doing a little research on various religions, trying to look at their own websites rather than sites full of stuff made up from opposing religions. I know that many religions teach the trinity but I am having a little trouble finding a basis for this teaching even when looking on the sites of religions that teach it!
There is a lot more research I can do and I don't want to seem as though I am bad-mouthing or belittling other religions - I'm just trying to get an understanding is all; its handy to at least have an idea when talking to people from these various backgrounds, to see where they're coming from and also for my own faith-building/strengthening when trying to explain why I find it to be a false teaching...
The Catholic Encyclopaedia shows this, this, and this but I thought that Catholics (and C of E) believed in the trinity and that the trinity is the belief that God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit/Ghost is all one, as oppose to Jehovah/God, his anointed Son/Jesus, and God's Holy Spirit/Ghost/active Force (given to Jesus to enable him to heal, and to Moses to enable him to part the Red Sea etc etc)... I was looking at the Catholic Bible aka The New Advent Holy Bible (here) of Acts 10 - particularly verses 38 to 42 (King James version) which, if they *do* believe in the trinity, would make it appear as though he anointed himself and also resurrected himself as well... In Luke 23: verse 34 (here) - New Advent Holy Bible version (here) and King James version (here) it would appear that he was talking to himself... Neither religion, from my very limited understanding, do anything in the way of preaching and teaching about God's Kingdom or the Kingdom Message, which is what Jesus and his apostles did from house to house (its what Jesus was anointed for and what he commanded his followers to do) and is what Jehovah's Witnesses continue to do... Matthew 24: verse 14 (here) New Advent Holy Bible version (here) and King James version (here) - (Jehovah's Witnesses used to use the King James Bible before the thoroughly accurate copy from the original manuscript/scrolls that they have now)**.
**As I'm sure most people are aware, King James ordered that the name Jehovah be taken out of the Bible wherever possible so it only shows in this Bible a few times (such as (here) in Psalms 83: verse 18) as oppose to it being in the Bible almost 7,000 times as in the original manuscript/scrolls.
Bearing in mind that people used to have to place their hand on the Bible to swear to tell the whole truth, you wouldn't think adaptations from the original manuscript/scrolls would be legal, other than to translate into your own language(s)! =/

( Who is putting pressure on me? JWs you say? Really??? )
Think about your reactions to people who have decided to become a Jehovah's Witness... What's the difference here? Because if there is one, I'd be interested to know what it is???
... Not only do these reactions push people away, but they are also further proof that what I am learning is completely true =)

The Divine NameāIts Use and Its Meaning. An Identifying Name. Wikipedia's, urm, doings (4th paragraph down, under 'Pronunciation'), which obviously *could* have been written by a JW but I very much doubt it!!
Eg. King James Bible, Psalms 83:18 (just one verse, sadly out of only a few of the scriptures in this particular Bible that have not been adapted. Catholic Bible, Psalms 83:18). This is what you get when you type 'Jehovah' in the Catholic Encyclopaedia (aka New Advent). However, in the New Advent Bible (Psalm 83:19), not only is it now verse '19' instead of '18' where they have made so many changes to the overall Bible but also, they have now moved the Divine Name altogether (as has happened with the new version of the King James Bible, which is not on-line as far as I can see but interestingly I did find this with comments below from people who are not JW's!!!). Also, when you type 'Jehovah' in the NEW/UPDATED Catholic Encyclopaedia, there are 'no results found'! Interesting! =S
I'd love to see/hear what their opinions are on Revelation 22:18,19 (King James version / Catholic version / New Advent Version) about not adding to or taking from the Bible!! =D
